British boxer Anthony Joshua has been injured, with two others killed, in a car crash in Nigeria, police have confirmed.

The accident occurred earlier on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Police in Ogun State said the 36-year-old boxer was rushed to hospital with minor injuries. Two other people were confirmed dead following the collision.

According to the BBC, Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo said an investigation into the accident has been ordered.

The Lagos-Ibadan expressway connects Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state and Lagos, Nigeria's largest city.

It gets busy during the festive season, as many Nigerians travel back to the country from the diaspora to celebrate the festive period.

Joshua has Nigerian roots, having been born of ‍British-Nigerian parents.

A video seen by Radio Generation shows a crowd helping Joshua out of the vehicle he was in, at the time of the accident.

Two other occupants in the vehicle escaped unhurt.

The crash involved a Lexus and truck.

The former heavyweight world champion had been spending time in Nigeria after his recent fight with Jake Paul on December 19, 2025.

Joshua is a former two-time heavyweight champion having held the unified world heavyweight championship twice from 2017 to 2019 and from 2019 to 2021.

At regional level, he held the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles from 2015 to 2016.
